New Update
Melbourne Renegades and Queensland Fire fast-bowler Holly Ferling has joined Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Meteors on a two-year contract, the organisation announced on Monday (May 9). ACT Meteors have announced the contracted squad of 15-player for the 2022-23 season of the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL).
Along with Ferling, Angelina Genford, who impressed with her performance in the New South Wales Premier Cricket competition, has also found a place in the squad. Meanwhile, Annie Wikman and Alisha Bates have gained a full-time contract after making their debuts for the Meteors in the last season.
Meteors Head Coach Jono Dean greeted Ferling in the squad. “We are very excited to welcome Holly Ferling to Canberra and into the Meteors family,” He said. “Whilst she is an extremely accomplished cricketer, having made 34 appearances for Australia across all formats, she is also a wonderful leader and will be a great mentor for some of our younger players.”
Current captain Angela Reakes announced her pregnancy earlier this year and she will benefit from the Australian Cricket Parental Leave Policy. Adelaide Strikers’ opening batter Katie Mack has singed a new three-year deal with the Meteors ahead of the season and she will remain with the ACT until the end of the 2024-25 season.
“It is also very pleasing to see a player of Katie Mack’s calibre show her faith and commitment to our program by signing a long-term deal. She is an integral part of our future plans, and we are thrilled to continue to play a part in her cricket journey,” Dean commented.

Former captain Erin Osborne announced her retirement at the end of the previous season and Nicola Hancock and Erica Kershaw were not offered contract renewals. Madeline Penna, who represents Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League, has requested a release from her contract with the Meteors with one-year remaining.
“It was a difficult decision to say farewell to Erica Kershaw who has been an important part of our squad for a number of years. We also wish Nicola Hancock and Madeline Penna all the best as they pursue new opportunities,” Dean said.
