All-round Scotland register massive win over Germany

In their last match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifiers, Scotland gave themselves every chance to qualify. They defeated Germany by a massive margin of 107 runs and finished the tournament with six points to their name.

Germany won the toss and elected to field first. The decision paid off initially, when they sent Sarah Bryce back for five in the first over. However, a 140-run partnership between Kathryn Bryce and Becky Glen then put Scotland firmly on top. The two complimented each other well, attacking from both ends to tear apart Germany's bowling attack. Skipper K. Bryce hammered a 46-ball 65 and was joined by Glen, who added 60 runs off 48 deliveries. Both scored five boundaries and cleared the rope two times. Interestingly enough, they were both dismissed in a similar manner too, caught off the bowling of Christina Gough, by debutant Antonia Meyenborg.

The wicket of K. Bryce let Germany back into the game, and in the last five overs, they dominated. Scotland lost six wickets for 21 runs, finishing their innings on 168-8; a much lower total than they were poised to post, had someone built on the foundation K. Bryce and Glen laid down.

Gough starred with the ball, taking three wickets for 32 runs. She also helped execute two run outs. Anna Healey and 14-year old Emma Bargna also took three wickets between themselves.

Chasing, Germany failed to carry the momentum they had gained towards the end of the first innings into their batting. None of the batters fired, as Gough top-scored with a 22-ball 17. Abtaha Maqsood and Katie McGill took three wickets each to make regular breakthroughs. As a result, Germany were not allowed be comfortable at the crease and could only knock 61 runs off the total, losing by 107 runs.

Scotland now have six points. Their qualification largely depends on the result of the next match. If Netherlands also triumph over Germany, the decision will come down to whichever side has a superior net run rate. Should Germany pull off an upset though, Scotland will qualify automatically due to having the  most points.
