Beth Morgan, former England allrounder, has been named as an honorary life vice-president of Middlesex Cricket Club at the Annual General Meeting on Thursday (June 25). She is the first female to receive the honour in the club's history.

Morgan, who represented England in 107 international matches across formats, said she felt honoured by the invitation and thanked the club.

“It’s an amazing honour to be invited to be an honorary vice-president and I am hugely thankful to everyone at the club,” she said.

“It has been an absolute privilege to have the opportunity to be involved with Middlesex Cricket for so many years and huge credit has to go to all the women’s players and staff, past and present, who have done so much to help get women’s cricket in Middlesex to the exciting place it is in today.”

Morgan represented Middlesex in 187 matches across both competitive formats and scored over 4000 runs and took 97 wickets in a domestic career that spanned over 24 years. She is the club’s most capped female player and the only woman to feature in every season of Women’s One-Day County Championship.

The 38-year-old Morgan was part of the England sides that won the ICC Women’s World Cup and T20 World Cup in 2009. She also featured in two Ashes wins in 2005 and 2008 before retiring from the international game in 2013.

“As club President I am doubly delighted with this recognition for Beth, the first female to be accorded this significant honour,” said Mike Selvey, Middlesex President. “Her record as a great cricketer and ambassador for Middlesex and England is beyond question and first and foremost this status reflects that.”

“On a personal note, on a June evening at the Oval eleven years ago Beth, together with Claire Taylor, put on a dazzling match winning partnership to beat Australia in the World T20 semi-final, and open this hitherto sceptic's eyes to the potential of women's cricket.”
