Some tight bowling performance from Rajmati Airee and Sita Rana Magar helped the Armed Police Force women to register their second win the Prime Minister Cup tournament against Province Number 2 on Sunday (December 27). In the other match, the Lumbini Province trumped Karnali Province by nine wickets.

After electing to bat, the Province Number 2 openers Sobha Aale and Anuradha Chaudhary provided them with the start they needed. They added 27 runs in seven overs before Aale got out to Iswori Bist for a 23- ball 13.

Melina Rayamajjhi got out to Karuna Bhandari for a duck shortly after while Chaudhary kept the innings going at the other end. When Chaudhary was ran-out by Bhandari for 18 from 34 balls, the Province Number 2 was 43 for three after 12 overs, and then things broke loose.

In the next four overs, they scored only 13 runs and lost three wickets. Courtesy to some tight bowling from Rana Magar and Rajmati Airee, the Province Number 2 managed to score only 72 for eight by the end of the innings. Barring the openers, none of their batters crossed the double digits. While Rana Magar picked up two wickets, Bhandari, Bist, Airee and Rekha Rawal took one each.

Jyoti Pandey and the Armed Police Force skipper Rana Magar ensured that the Province Number 2 bowlers did not make any early inroads. They added 51 runs together before Rana Magar got out for 18 from 30 balls.

In the earlier fixture that was cut short to 13 overs per side due to fog, Karnali Province got off to a poor start with the bat. After Nary Thapa removed Monika Rana early, they struggled to get going. Trisana Bishwokarma, in particular, could not keep the scoreboard moving. She managed to score two runs in the 31 balls she faced before getting run out. With Sarita GC dismissing their skipper Laxmi Rimal, the Karnali Province were grappling at 28 for four at the halfway mark.

Although Dikshya Puri hit a couple of boundaries off Thapa, the fight did not last long. They scrapped their way to 34 for six at the end of 20 overs. Thapa was the pick of the bowlers getting two wickets for 13 runs in her three overs.

Chasing less three runs per over, the Karnali women lost Gita Gosai in the second over. However, they comfortably reached the target in just about three overs with the Lumbini women giving away 20 runs in extras including 17 wides in 3.1 overs.
