New Update
Brisbane Heat have signed Josie Dooley, re-signed allrounder Sammy-Jo Johnson and medium pacer Haidee Birkett for the upcoming fourth edition of Women's Big Bash League.
Johnson, Birkett and Dooley have given some brilliant performances in the recently concluded first round of the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL). Johnson and Dooley played a match-winning knock against NSW Breakers. Their well-made 124 run-partnership for the seventh wicket played a pivotal role for Queensland Fire when the team was struggling at 18/6. Not only with the bat but also Johnson's 2/24 and Birkett's 2/13 were equally important for that win.
Last year Johnson and Birkett both took 10 wickets in 14 matches. Johnson has 15 scalps to her name in 30 WBBL games so far and now she has signed a two-year deal with Brisbane Heat. 18-year-old Josie Dooley was a rookie talent of Heat in the last season where she played for the Governor-General’s XI against English team as part of the Women’s Ashes. Birkett has already played 29 games for the Heat and has taken 19 WBBL wickets.
Peter McGiffin, the coach of Brisbane Heat, was excited and stated, “Sammy-Jo and Haidee have worked really hard to develop their games in the past 12 months and are poised to be very important members of the squad this summer. Josie is an exciting prospect and we’re delighted she has joined the Heat. She’s shown for the Queensland Fire that she has a mature head on her shoulders when it comes to her batting and we’re pleased with how her ‘keeping is coming along too.”
Brisbane Heat squad so far announced is:
Jemma Barsby, Haidee Birkett, Josie Dooley, Grace Harris, Sammy-Jo Johnson, Jess Jonassen, Delissa Kimmince, Beth Mooney, Georgia Prestwidge, Kirby Short.
