Melbourne Stars have a new coach-captain combo for the sixth edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), with Trent Woodhill taking over. It was the second change of coach for them in the off-season, with Leah Poulton, who was roped in, leaving the role after becoming the Head of Female Cricket by Cricket New South Wales.
Stars then announced signing Meg Lanning, who had led Stars in the first two editions before going to Perth Scorchers. Moreover, they also strengthened their squad by bringing in Katherine Brunt and Natalie Sciver. With a formidable line-up, Stars could dream of achieving a title-win in the WBBL.
Perth Scorchers’ signing coup meant that they ended up having both the top-scorers of WBBL05, Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney, and also acquired Sarah Glenn. Melbourne Renegades, on the other hand, received a boost as Amy Satterthwaite returns, though they might miss the wily old Jess Duffin, who led them last season.
How do other squads shape up? Who are some of the key players in the WBBL06? Which side looks weak on paper? Yash Lahoti, Ananya Upendran and S. Sudarshanan discuss on this episode of the Clean Bowled Podcast.
