Thabang Moroe, the CEO of Cricket South Africa (CSA), has been removed from the post with immediate effect after a resolution was passed to that effect in the meeting of the Board of Directors, the board announced on Thursday (August 27).

An independent forensic and an audit into Moroe’s affairs was being conducted after he was suspected of misconduct. As a result, he was suspended with pay in December last year.

“Cricket South Africa’s decision was based on expert external legal opinion supported by the findings emanating from an independent forensic investigation. The independent forensic investigation revealed that Mr. Thabang Moroe had committed acts of serious misconduct which warranted the sanction of dismissal,” read a statement from CSA.

"Mr Thabang Moroe was offered sufficient opportunity to provide representations to the independent forensic auditors and to the Board regarding the allegations of misconduct, which opportunity he failed and/or refused to utilise."

Kugandrie Govender, who was appointed as the acting CEO last week, will continue in the role till the recruitment of a full-time CEO. This move was done after a spate of resignations over the past months, including the acting CEO, Dr. Jacques Faul and President Chris Nenzani.
