Bowlers star as Challenger Blizzards end UCA Elite T20 League with a consolation win

With the series lost already to Damani Hurricanes, the Challenger Blizzards ended the five-match UCA Elite T20 League on a high with a 13-run victory on Sunday (December 13). Earlier, the Hurricanes had won three matches on the trot after the first match was cancelled due to wet outfield.

After asked to bat first, the Blizzards scored 60 for nine in 20 overs, their highest in the series. Coming in at 42 for seven, Sarah Walaza batted till the last ball off the innings and top-scored for them while the rest of the batters did not cross double digits. Hurricanes skipper Immaculate Nakisuyi and Teddy Ayella picked three wickets each giving away less than five runs per over.

Chasing 61, Hurricanes lost their openers early. After Irene Alumo and Walaza rattled their top-order, the Hurricane batters struggled to get going. Periodical breakthroughs from Blizzards' bowlers ensured that the Hurricanes fell short by 13 runs.

Stephanie Nampima, Esther Kayaga and Franklyn Najjumba were the picks of the bowlers for Blizzards. Clare Mushakamba top-scored for the Hurricanes and remained unbeaten till the end of the innings. Alumo was the player of the match for her performance with the ball as she picked two crucial wickets for seven runs in her four overs including a maiden.

Rachael Ntono from Hurricanes was the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 50 runs in four innings, and Christine Anayo led the wickets column with eight scalps in four matches.
