Charlie Dean, Kirstie Gordon part of England’s pre-Ashes training camp
Uncontracted Charlie Dean, Maia Bouchier and Kirstie Gordon are among England’s pre-Ashes training squad along as they prepare for the series down under. Except for still recovering from injury Katie George and Sophie Ecclestone, who has been given a rest, all other centrally contracted players are part of the two-week training squad in Oman, The Cricketer reported.
Off-spinner Dean and allrounder Bouchier made their international debut during the home series against New Zealand in September this year. Dean was impressive during series taking ten wickets from five matches at an average of 19.20 with a best fo 4/36. The 24-year-old Gordon was omitted from the central contracts when they were renewed in June 2021. She has represented England in one Test and five T20Is, she was impressive during England’s runners up finish in the T20 World Cup 2018.
Other than the absence of George and Ecclestone, England training squad is largely the same with recently retired Fran Wilson being not there is the only the other change. Pacer Natasha Farrant, who recently earned back her contract ahead of the 2022 season, is also among the training squad.
Skipper Heather Knight, vice-captain Natalie Sciver, pace bowling allrounder Katherine Brunt along with the other members will be looking to get some valuable practice as part of the warm-weather training camp.
As per the report, the England and England A squad for the multi-format Ashes series, that’s scheduled to start with the one-off Test in January 27, will be announced in December. The Test will be followed by three T20Is and ODIs as the visitors will look to regain the Trophy for the first time since 2014.
