Ellyse Perry becomes the latest Australian to pull out of the inaugural edition of The Hundred, it was announced on Friday (July 9). She has done so due to personal seasons.

“We are obviously very disappointed that Ellyse Perry has had to withdraw from The Hundred due to personal circumstances, but we completely understand her decision and wish her all the best,” said Beth Barrett-Wild, head of the women’s competition of The Hundred.

Perry was due to play for Birmingham Phoenix in the competition. Ashleigh Gardner was also part of the Phoenix unit before she was replaced by Erin Burns last week. Apart from the Australian duo, Shafali Verma is the third overseas player in the Phoenix unit.

Perry was part of the T20 World Cup 2020 winning squad of Australia. She also has won the Women’s World Cup in 2013 with the Aussies.

The Hundred is set to begin on July 21 with Oval Invincibles taking on Manchester Originals. The final is scheduled for August 21. Australia are set to host India in a multi-format series with the ODIs beginning on September 19. The strict quarantine protocols in Australia did give rise to early speculations about the withdrawals of more Australian players, that began with Rachael Haynes.

Phoenix play their first match on July 23 against London Spirit at Edgbaston.
