Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in New Delhi is going to have another two of its gates named after former
Indian Women’s National cricket team skipper Anjum Chopra, as declared by the
Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) in a way of acknowledging her contribution towards Indian cricket as a whole.
Gate No. 2 of the ground was named after former
Indian opener Virender Sehwag. Only a month later, the
DDCA has decided to name two of the Ground’s other gates,
Gate No. 3 and 4 after cricketer-turned- commentator Anjum Chopra who represented India in six ICC Women World Cup tournaments in her career spanning almost seventeen years. Her
debut ODI match was in
February 1995 against the White Ferns and her last played match was a
T20I against the Southern Stars in 2012. “In order to recognize, encourage and reward the contribution that women deserve in our country and in sports, a woman cricketer has been chosen and it has been decided to name a gate in the name of Arjuna award winner and Padma Shri awardee, Anjum Chopra”, a DDCA statement read.
“Gates 3-4 will now be renamed as Anjum Chopra Gate.”, it added.
In addition to this, the
DDCA has planned to name two stands of the
Feroz Shah Kotla ground after former Indian captain Bishan Singh Bedi and former Indian all-rounder Mohinder Amarnath as well.
