Match Preview: India vs Ireland – Match 13

Date: November 15, 2018

Venue: Guyana National Stadium, Providence, Guyana

After two back-to-back wins earlier in the tournament, Indian team would be hoping to register their third win against the inexperienced Irish side to makes sure their spot in semifinals will be guaranteed. Also, this time they will be hoping for a better catching performance unlike in the last game. On the other hand, Ireland team would be hoping to execute their plans and get an inspirational win in this must-win encounter against a formidable Indian side.

Players to watch out:

Poonam Yadav (India)

Poonam Yadav has been one of the ace players for India even before the start of the tournament. She had lived up to her expectations and once again, she has been the pick of the bowlers for India in the first two matches. Apart from taking wickets, she also bowls economically. Once again India would rely on their prime spinners along with other spinners to do the job.

She has 32 wickets in 22 innings which is the highest in 2018 by a spinner in T20Is.

Kim Garth (Ireland):

She is one of the few players who has won a Women’s Big Bash League title along with Alyssa Healy (Australia) and Sydney Sixers last summer. She made her debut when she was 14. A right-handed all-rounder will be hoping to help Irish girls to some success against formidable Indian side.

Who Said What:

“Batting is all about instincts. You don't plan and go there because obviously, the opponents have a different plan, and if you only want to stick to your plan, there is obviously a downfall. So as a batter, my focus is only on to watch the ball and play instinctively whether it is an aggressive shot or walking out for a single." Mithali Raj

“We were really, really excited coming in the game, off the back of a big win for us against Sri Lanka (in a warm-up game), and we felt like we can cause a few upsets and we still do. Don't get me wrong. But we're pretty disappointed with this evening's performance. Bowling, we actually did a lot of homework for the game. And I don't think we executed them. At times we kind of looked like deer in headlights a bit. And that was disappointing.” – Kim Garth

Conditions:

The conditions in Guyana would generally be assisting for the spinners as we have seen in the earlier matches. As the day progresses the spinners will come into action. However, there is a fair bit of chance for batters on this pitch as we have seen other batters. Since it's the first game of the day, the conditions will not be much different from what we have seen in the previous two Indian matches.

Numbers to look out for:

  • Mithali Raj needs 10 runs in this match to go past Meg Lanning in the list of most runs in T20I.

  • Clare Shillington requires 16 runs to become first Irish player to score 1000 T20I runs.
