The 22-year-old, who also plays Australian rules football for GWS Giants in the AFLW is one of the busiest athletes in the country. She believes, that having the support of both clubs has allowed her to become a more rounded athlete.
“Having both teams excited for me to play both sports really helps me get on the park for every game in the best shape possible,” said Hicks, who doubles up as a right-hand batter and leg-spinner. “I have to communicate between the two sports and make sure I can fit in all the required training, while also making sure I am not overtraining and can get the best out of myself.”
“The Sixers, I think are the best team in the business in any sport in the country. The way they go about their business on and off the field is so professional and it’s a privilege to be part of the club and this WBBL team.”
Ben Sawyer, head coach of the Sixers, believes that the energy Hicks brings the to franchise at both training and matches in infectious.
"Jodie was part of the playing group at the Sixers in each of the first four years of the WBBL," Sawyer said. “To play at this level in one sport requires a high level of professionalism, so to be able to play professionally in two sports at once is a big task and one that Jodie is handling with maturity and passion.”
“We are looking forward to her continued development in this WBBL.”
