Yorkshire Diamonds finally opened their account for the Kia Super League by recording a 12 run win over last year's runners-up, Southern Vipers. Katherine Brunt stars taking 5 wickets for the hosts.

Having won the toss, Diamonds elected to bat first and got off to a blistering start. Openers Beth Mooney (13 off 10) and Lauren Winfield hammered the Vipers bowlers, finding themselves at 63-1 at the end of the powerplay.

Winfield played a captain's knock smashing 64 off 38 deliveries before Tash Farrant accounted for her. Chamari Atapattu then led the Diamonds attack, scoring 43 runs off 32 balls. A valuable cameo by Katherine Brunt (21* off 13) towards the end of the innings guided the Diamonds to a daunting total of 175-5.

For the Vipers, Amelia Kerr and Tash Farrant took two wickets each and Suzie Bates chipped in with one.

Bates then led the Vipers chase as well with her knock of 34 off 22 balls. However, no other batter scored more than 30 runs as wickets fell regularly. Useful knocks from Mignon du Preez (25 off 23), Sarah McGlashan (21 off 20) and Amelia Kerr (26* off 18) helped get the Vipers close to the target.

They went into the last over requiring 20 runs off it. Doable as the in-form Kerr was on strike. Katherine Brunt was given the ball. Brunt's experience shown through as she conceded just eight runs, without leaking a single boundary and taking two wickets, leading her team to their first win of the series by 12 runs.

Lauren Winfield was awarded Player of the Match for her batting efforts.
