Gaby Lewis struck her second half century in two games, scoring a 101-ball 94 to help Scorchers overhaul Typhoons' score in round two of the Super 50 clash on Sunday (May 2) at Sydney Parade in Sandymount to register a four-wicket win. She was assisted by Sophie MacMahon's unbeaten 44 after Lara Maritz picked three wickets in the first innings.

Opting to bat first, Typhoons openers Rebecca Stokell and Rachel Delaney built a solid 66-run opening partnership before Stokell became Martiz's first wicket. She felt for a length ball outside off, only to get a faint edge and get out for 28. Maritz soon got rid of Sarah Forbes (one).

But Delaney carried on and strung a 43-run partnership with Amy Hunter (18), who was cleaned up by Jenny Sparrow. Despite not having much assistance from the middle order, Delaney carried on steadily to bring up her half century in 81 balls. Typhoons lost Orla Prendergast (two) and Louise Little (11) to run outs, before Leah Paul trapped Delaney in front for 77.

From six for 170 in the 44th over, Typhoons finished with nine for 208 in their fifty overs, with skipper Celeste Raack making a run-a-ball 23 after coming in at seven. For Scorchers, apart from Maritz's three for 48, Sparrow, Paul and MacMahon picked a wicket apiece.

Scorchers' chase was shaky, to begin with, when they lost Leah Paul in the second over before scoring a run. Lewis then partnered with Alana Dalzell for the second wicket and added 82 runs. Delaney made the breakthrough, when she made Dalzell miscue one towards covers for ten. Shauna Kavanagh (16) and Cara Murray (zero) soon fell to leave Scorchers in a spot of bother at 113 for four.

Lewis, meanwhile, had got to a stroke-filled fifty in just 58 balls and looked primed to score a century and see her side home. But when on 94, she looked to sweep Delaney and only managed a top edge. Georgina Dempsey ran to her right from square leg to take a good diving catch and end Lewis' stay in the middle, six short of a deserving hundred. MacMahon then walked in and scored a quick 44 off just 47 balls to take Scorchers home for their second win.

For Typhoons, Orla Prendergast and Delaney took two wickets apiece while Jane Maguire got one wicket.

Brief Scores: Typhoons 208/9 in 50 overs (Rachel Delaney 73, Rebecca Stokell 28, Celeste Raack 23; Lara Maritz 3/48) lost to Scorchers 209/6 in 42 overs (Gaby Lewis 94*, Sophie MacMahon 44*; Orla Prendergast 2/36, Rachel Delaney 2/47) by four wickets.
