Cricket West Indies, on Thursday (August 29), announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 which is scheduled to be held the UAE in October. WCPL 2024 MVP Hayley Matthews will continue to lead the team with Shemaine Campbelle being the deputy.

The biggest development for Windies is the return of explosive batter Deandra Dottin. She made a shock retirement announcement back in 2022, opening up about a “non-conducive” environment within the West Indies set-up. But the 33-year-old took back her decision and came out of retirement last month, eyeing the Women's T20 World Cup.

Dottin, along with Stafanie Taylor and vice-captain Campbell, is one of the most experienced players in the squad. She has more than 100 T20I caps to her name. Captain Matthews is also four games away from reaching the landmark.

The squad features a mix of youth and experience, which was also highlighted by head coach Shane Deitz. “We have a well-balanced team with a combination of experience and youth, and we believe this group has what it takes to compete strongly at the T20 World Cup. Our preparation has been thorough, and the management team has worked tirelessly to ensure the players are ready for the challenges ahead,” he said.

Aaliyah Alleyne, who was awarded the Player of the Match in WCPL final 2024 final, will handle the pace-responsibilities. She will be accompanied by Nerissa Crafton, who will be looking to make her debut, and Shamilia Connell. Meanwhile, Ashimini Munisar, Zaida James, Qiana Joseph, and Karishma Ramharack and Matthews will be taking the spin duties.

West Indies are placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh, England, Scotland and South Africa. Their campaign begins on October 4 against the Proteas.

The Windies failed to make it to the knockout stage in the 2023 edition of the competition. Their best performance in the Women's T20 World Cup was back in 2016 when they won the tournament by beating Australia in the final.
