The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Tuesday (August 27), announced the 15-member Indian squad ahead of the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup 2024 set to take place in the UAE in October. Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead India, while Smriti Mandhana playing the role of her deputy. Shreyanka Patil and Yastika Bhatia will be part of the side (subject to fitness) when they take on the field for the ninth edition of the tournament.

T20 World Cup 2024 will be played from October 3 to October 20 in Dubai and Sharjah with India kicking off their campaign against New Zealand on October 4. Team India are also scheduled to play two warm-up games against South Africa and West Indies.

Besides the White Ferns, Captain Kaur's side has been placed with defending champions Australia, Pakistan and Women's Asia Cup 2024 winners Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Group B comprises Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies, and Scotland. Each team will play four group matches, and the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals.

India have made one change from their recently concluded Women's Asia Cup 2024 campaign. Yastika Bhatia, who hasn't featured for India since picking an injury in the Bangladesh tour back in April 2024, has been included in the squad but her involvement will depend on her fitness. The wicket-keeper replaces Uma Chetry who has been named as one of the three travelling reserves alongside Tanuja Kanwer and Saima Thakor.

The same is the case with off-spinner Shreyanka Patil, who injured her finger in the Women's Asia Cup 2024. Asha Sobhana will feature in her first-ever World Cup at the age of 33.

India fell short of Australia in the semifinals by five runs in the previous edition of the tournament in 2023. Their best performance remains the T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia where they finished runners-up behind the hosts.
