The Women's Selection Committee, on Thursday (October 17), named India's 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the side.
The White Ferns will face off against Team India after the conclusion of Women's T20 World Cup 2024 in three ODIs which we take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 24, 27 and 29.
Young wicket-keeper Richa Ghosh has not been included in the three-match series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that the 21-year-old would miss out because of her 12th standard board exams. Additionally, Pooja Vastrakar has also been rested for the series. Asha Sobhana picked an injury during Team India's warm-up session before the T20 World Cup game against Australia, and she will also not be featuring against New Zealand.
The BCCI released a statement, "Richa Ghosh was unavailable for selection due to her 12th standard board exams. Asha Sobhana is currently nursing an injury and was unavailable for selection. Pooja Vastrakar has been rested for the series."
Sayali Satghare, Saima Thakor, Tejal Hasabnis, Priya Mishra have recived their maiden call-ups. Meanwhile wicket-keeper Uma Chetry will be looking to make her ODI debut with Ghosh being out of the squad.
India had a disappointing campaign in T20 World Cup 2024, getting knocked out in the group stage. New Zealand, on the other hand, have reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2016. Captain Kaur's side will be aiming to exact revenge from the White Ferns as they defeated them in the tournament.
