Cricket coach Manu M, admitted to sexually assaulting a minor girl while on a trip taken to Tenkasi located in Tamil Nadu under the guise of a cricket match, according to a news report by Mathrubhumi

He confessed to the same while being taken for evidence collection by the police in Thiruvananthapuram. Manu coached for the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) and has a total of one case filed and six cases registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO Act), for allegedly assaulting minor girls sexually under the pretext of cricket practice.

When brought to Tenkasi for evidence collection, Manu admitted to having molested the girl. He continued to claim that it was not an assault, but the entire ordeal was with the girl’s consent. He denied the charges in all other cases, stating that he was instead closely associated with the other girls for practice requirements.

The police have also received evidence for the accusations, while they await forensic evidence from Manu’s mobile phones. A year and a half ago, a complaint was filed against Manu by a girl for molestation which was later changed by her, acquitting him. Working with the KCA for ten years until then, he continued his tenure despite the allegations.

Manu has been arrested by the Cantonment police in Thiruvananthapuram and has been booked for seven cases under POCSO. KCA continued to employ Manu who was present as a team coach during the Pink T20 Challengers tournament in May this year.  He is also accused of taking the children to a camp without following due procedures.
