India have named their limited over squads for the Bangladesh tour on July 2 (Sunday). Both the teams comprising of 18 members each with four uncapped players in Uma Chetry, Rashi Kanojiya, Bareddy Anusha, and Minnu Mani (Only T20Is). Notable absentees are Renuka Singh Thakur, Shikha Pandey, Richa Ghosh and Rajeshwari Gayakwad as Women's Selection Committee headed by Neetu David named the squads for the tour that starts with T20Is on July 9. India are scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on July 6.
Although the BCCI media release didn't mention any reasons for the omissions, Women's CricZone understands that Thakur is still recovering from an injury and Ghosh's exclusion is due to the wicketkeeper-batter failing the fitness test. The 19-year-old was previously dropped from the squad owing to fitness issues during the Commonwealth Games 2022 as well.
20-year-old Chetry will don the second wicket-keeper role in both the formats with Yastika Bhatia being the other wicket-keeper in the squad. Chetry is an aggressive batter from Assam and opened the batting for India A during their successful ACC T20 Emerging Women's Asia Cup in Hong Kong.
Left-arm spinner Kanojiya plays for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket and the 25-year-old picked up 19 wickets at an average of 13.10 in T20s during the 2022-23 season. Kanojiya also represented Harmanpreet Kaur led Supernovas in the Women's T20 Challenge 2022. Incumbent left-arm spinners Gayakwad and Radha Yadav have been omitted from the tour altogether.
