A total of 60 players have been retained while 29 players have been released by the five franchises as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 player retention list on Thursday (October 19).
Gujarat Giants, who finished bottom of the table in 2023, have released the most number of players, including their overseas players, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Wareham, Kim Garth, and Sophia Dunkley. The franchise has released 11 players altogether from their squad.
Meanwhile, UP Warriorz have dropped all-rounder Devika Vaidya and pacer Shabnim Ismail. They have retained many of their international players as well as domestic talent including Tahlia McGrath, Deepti Sharma, Kiran Navgire, Grace Harris and Shweta Sehrawat, to name a few.
Delhi Capitals have retained their core from WPL 2023, releasing only 3 players. However, Associate player Tara Norris, who took the first five-wicket haul in the WPL last season, has been released by the Capitals.
Winners of the inaugural edition of the WPL, Mumbai Indians have retained 13 players in their team. Heather Graham is the sole international talent that they’ve released along with 3 domestic players.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have released the likes of South African allrounder Dané Van Niekerk, Australian allrounder Erin Burns and pacer Megan Schutt while retaining most of the core team including captain Smriti Mandhana and Australia's Ellyse Perry.
