Kanika Ahuja, Shreyanka Patil, Titas Sadhu and Shweta Sehrawat are some of the prominent young stars included in the India A squad for the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) T20 Emerging Women's Asia Cup. The tournament will be played in Hong Kong from June 12 to 21.
While the squad is yet to be officially announced, Women's CricZone understands that the team that has been picked with the future in mind and none of capped Indian players feature in it. Most of the players are currently at the High Performance Camp in Alur, Karnataka. The camp that started on May 15 will run until June 8. BCCI is expected to announce the squad in the next few days.
Ahuja and Patil were among the few bright spots Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had in the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL).
Sadhu led the pace-bowling attack of India with a player of the match performance in the final at the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa where they were crowned champions. Sehrawat was also insturmental in India's triumph where she finished as the leading run-getter with 297 runs at an average of 99.00 and a strike rate of 139.43.
Other Under-19 stars like leg spinner Parshavi Chopra, slow left-arm Mannat Kashyap, batters G Trisha, Soumya Tiwari and pacer Yashasri S have also been included in the squad.
Assam's Uma Chetry has found a place in the side that will travel to Hong Kong for the eight-team tournament. Chandigarh pace-bowling allrounder Kashvee Gautam, Uttar Pradesh's Muskan Malik and Anusha are also part of the squad.
India A are placed in Group A of the tournament alongside archivals Pakistan, Thailand and the hosts Hong Kong, while Group B features Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and UAE.
