Ayesha Jafar and Nahida Khan opened for Pakistan, as they looked to put the first ODI behind them. But the game started from them much as the last match did; with twenty dot balls out of twenty-four spoke. Lea Tahuhu and Anna Peterson dominated the first four overs of the game. Ayesha Jafar 2(18) couldn’t do much to relieve the pressure and lost her wicket to Hannah Rowe caught by Amelia Kerr.

 

Javeria Khan joined the Nahida Khan and all the pressure was on this pair. In the last match both the Khan’s smashed half-centuries. The first boundary came on the last ball of eleventh over when Nahida Khan smashed it through mid-on. Now, Pakistan reached on 22/1. Javeria Khan 10(15) started her innings from where she left off the last match but just after hitting a four was run-out by Katey Martin.

 

Skipper Bismah Maroof and Nahida Khan led the innings forward slowly but safely till the half-way point of the Pakistan innings, but a loose shot of Nahida Khan 39(76) landed safely in Martin’s hands. Pakistan completed their 25 overs but 74/3 was not a good total at this point. Just after 17 deliveries Sidra Ameen 1(9) misread Leigh Kasperek’s lower delivery and got bowled. Iram Javed came in to support skipper Bismah Maroof and it took 9 balls to open her account. she tried to relieve the pressure with a six but it didn’t work. At the other end Bismah Maroof’s marathon innings 36(62) tried to save Pakistan and after her departure, Pakistan was 104/5 after 33 overs.

 

The next 17 overs were not so different than the previous 33 overs and Pakistan collected just 43 runs and lost their remaining 5 wickets; in which Sana Mir solely contributed 31runs in 46 balls. The final score was 147 all-out after 49.1 overs.

 

Kerr shined with ball (10-2- 35-3) and Hannah Rowe was economical (6-1- 17-2). Kasperek continued her form with ball (10-2- 31-2). Tahuhu was extra ordinary with ball (7.1-1- 14-1); Suzie Bates had done well along with others (8-2- 25-1).

 

148 was the target to register the series win for New Zealand. It was almost 90+ short in comparison to the last match. In form, Sophie Devine and skipper Suzie Bates started the innings for the New Zealand side with their well-known attitude. And the openers put on 90 runs for the first wicket. Suzie Bates contributed 33 from 42 balls.

 

Sophie Devine was on the move here too and before getting LBW from Javeria Khan’s googlie she smashed 62 from just 48 balls. New Zealand was almost near the victory and needed just 23 more runs. Amy Satterthwaite and Martin 8(8) tried to wrap the match in style, but she was bowled cleanly by an off-break from Javeria Khan.

 

Satterthwaite 25(34) and Maddy Green 10(12) remained unbeaten. New Zealand women chased the given 148 runs target in just 24 overs losing only 3 wickets and at a rate of 6.17 runs per over. And sealed the 3-match series 2-0 with one game to play.

 

No bowler except Javeria Khan seemed effective (3-0- 6-2); Sadia Yousuf was expensive but got one wicket. The rest of the bowlers seemed so helpless before the New Zealand attack.
