New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first, and they didn’t look back as their openers smashed half-centuries and didn’t lose a wicket till 14th over to provide a perfect solid start.
Sophie Devine 70(44) and
Suzie Bates 52(43) they played dominant cricket, they are New Zealand’s leaders and they did it in style.
When both Devine and Bates were dismissed
125 for 2, as poor running and the frantic need for runs started a dramatic comeback from
Pakistan. In the very next over Katie Perkins was removed by
Javeria Khan beautifully, and Sidra Nawaz took the stumping.
From here the dramatic collapse continued with the wicket of Amy Satterthwaite and was followed by the
run-outs of Katey Martin, Maddy Green, and Sam Curtis. Losing five wickets in six deliveries the scorecard moved to 139 for 8.
Anna Peterson and
Leigh Kasperek batted till last over and helped New Zealand to 150 for 8.
Pakistan started steadily. Both the openers added 29 runs in five overs. Sidra Ameen contributed 18 in 19 balls and got out in sixth over to the bowling of Suzie Bates.
Nahida Khan 22(26) too was removed soon after when she was run out.
Bimah Maroof 15(18),
Javeria Khan 11(15) and
Aliya Riaz 23(22) played well in the middle but after that no batter was able to help Pakistan get anywhere near the target, and they ultimately fell 39 runs short and lost to White Ferns, to give the visitors a
two-nil advantage with two games left to play.
