The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) approved an overall annual budget of 7.76 billion rupees for the year 2020-21 on Friday (June 26).

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic the annual budget has been reduced by 10 percent from the year 2019-20, but the PCB has allocated 71.2 percent of overall budget for cricket related activities, 5.5 percent of which will go to women’s cricket, to ensure that cricket remains unaffected.

Domestic cricket has been allocated a 25.2 per cent of the total budget, while 19.3 percent goes to international cricket. 19.7 percent is allocated for the Pakistan Super League 2021 and 1.5 per cent is allocated for medical and sports sciences.

5.5 percent budget allocated for women’s cricket includes home and away international cricket and the player contracts. The PCB’s five-year strategic plan lists various strategies that are in place to strengthen the women’s game in the country. There are plans to develop a National High-Performance Center for women to ensure merit-based selection and enable players to receive quality training and support.

“We have followed a strict cost-benefit and value for money policy while preparing this budget taking into consideration the economic situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Ehsan Mani, PCB Chairman while announcing the budget allocation.

“The budget caters for all critical business of cricket activities, while the nice-to-have activities have been set aside as part of our cost-cutting measures and to protect our reserves for the future. Over the next 12 months, we will continue to ensure strict financial management and controls, and I remain confident that we will deliver all our objectives as per our five-year strategy and within budget.”
