With 68 wickets to her name from 54 matches, the right-arm fast bowler is Thunder’s leading wicket-taker. She has picked those wickets at an average of 18.39. Last season, she was their second highest wicket-taker with 14 scalp. This despite missing four games due to injury.

“I’m really excited. I really enjoy playing at Sydney Thunder and would like to finish my career here as a one club player,” said Farrell. “I think we have a good group and hopefully a good season ahead. I really enjoy working with the young players and talking about bowling plans. It’s something that I really thrive on.”

The right-arm seamer mentioned that the opportunity to work with the young players in the squad and the promising future of the club made her decision easier.

She was pleased to see Lisa Griffith have a breakout season last year. “Whether it’s with her batting or bowling, she’s one of the hardest workers in the team. It was really rewarding to see her get wickets like Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry who are two of the best batters in the world.”

Farrell herself has had a tremendous last 12 months, which has seen her finish on top of the wickets table in the Women’s National Cricket League and New South Wales (NSW) Women’s Premier Cricket competition. She picked up 17 wickets at 11.59 for NSW Breakers and 21 scalps at 10.10 for St. George-Sutherland.

Ahead of the first standalone WBBL season, she said, “It’s really exciting to see the competition go stand alone. It’ll be great for us to have games on TV in prime time and also have games in regional areas where people can come and cheer us on.”
