The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Sunday, August 18, announced the groups and fixtures for the upcoming U-19 Women's T20 World Cup which takes place in Malaysia. India, who were the winners of the inaugural edition of the tournament, will face the hosts, West Indies and Sri Lanka in Group A.
Runners-up England have been placed in Group B along with Pakistan, USA and neighbours Ireland. Meanwhile, South Africa, who hosted the event in 2023, will take on New Zealand, Samoa and a qualifier from Africa in Group C.
Group D includes cricketing giants Australia who will be up against Bangladesh, Scotland and a qualifier from Asia. Each team will play three matches in the group stage. The top three nations from each group will advance to the Super Six stage, while the bottom-ranked sides from all four groups will take part in the last place play-off on January 24.
The 12 sides in the Super Six will be further divided into two groups. The top three teams from Groups A and D will make up Group 1, and those of Groups B and C will form Group 2. Each team will carry forward the points, wins and NRRs which were secured against fellow qualifying sides.
In this stage, each side will play two games against opponents of corresponding groups that finished different at group positions. The top two sides from each group will make it to the semifinals, which will take place on January 21. Meanwhile, the final will be held on February 2.
Both the semifinals and the final will be played at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. If India advance to the last four, they will play Semifinal 2, which will commence at 2:30 pm local time. Shafali Verma guided her side to glory in the inaugural edition of the tournament.
