Barely days after being named New Zealand Cricket Players' Association Player of the Year, Sophie Devine was crowned Wellington Blaze's Cricketer of the Year. She was also named best batter and best allrounder at the Cricket Wellington Awards on Friday (April 10). It capped off a memorable year for Devine who was also, only recently appointed skipper of New Zealand.

On the back of an extraordinary run in the Women's Big Bash League in Australia, Devine carried her form into the Super Smash, leading Wellington Blaze to a historic third consecutive T20 title. The right-hander scored 369 runs and picked up 13 wickets along the way.

Devine's purple patch extended into New Zealand's home series against South Africa - her first as captain - where she scored a memorable ton and three more half-centuries.

Jess Kerr, too, was rewarded for her consistent showing through the domestic season, winning the 'Outstanding Bowler' award. She topped the bowling charts in the Super Smash, taking 20 wickets along the way. She took wickets with her booming inswingers with the new ball, before using changes of pace in the back end of the innings.

Kerr's performances saw her earn a maiden call-up to the New Zealand squad for the home series against South Africa where she made her ODI and T20I debuts. She was also part of the squad that traveled to Australia for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020.

Amelia Kerr, Xara Jetly and Antonia Hamilton were the other award winners.
