Sripali Weerakkody becomes first female Sri Lankan player to qualify as a master trainer

Sri Lankan allrounder Sripali Weerakkody announced her decision to retire from international cricket on Wednesday (July 22).



“I have decided to call it a day. So I feel this is the right time for me,” said Weerakkody in a statement to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).



The 34-year-old played 89 ODIs and 58 T20Is for Sri Lanka, scoring over 900 runs and picking up 89 wickets with her seam bowling. She was also part of the side that won bronze medal in the 2014 Asian Games. She played the last of her international matches in the T20 World Cup in 2018 in West Indies.



Recently, Weerakkody had become the first Sri Lankan cricketer to qualify as a Master and Fitness trainer. She had been certified by the Australian Institute of Fitness.



“According to the sources close to her family and friends, the 34-year-old Sripali now wants to build her career in international training,” said a report on bdcrictime.
