Sydney Thunder has announced its squad to contest for the upcoming Indigenous T20 cup against Sydney Sixers. The Thunder Indigenous XI will take on Sixers Indigenous XI for the three T20 matches which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday and Thursday (December 4, 5).

Thunder are the reigning champions of Indigenous T20 cup and they will look to add one more trophy when they take on Sixers in the month of December. Julie Muir (Wiradjuri) is at the helm of handling Thunder and New South Wales Indigenous program for a number of years and she is optimistic that this year to players will get exposure through these three Indigenous matches.

“What an amazing opportunity to represent my culture by playing the game I love most alongside my mob,” said Muir.

“Sydney Thunder provides amazing opportunities for Indigenous people to play cricket. We are trying to get more Indigenous young women involved in cricket. I can’t wait to see the next Ashleigh Gardner and Hannah Darlington to play in WBBL.”

Homestar Finance has been supporting these Indigenous programs from the last year and for this year too they will be backing the initiative.

“We are proud to continue our support of Indigenous cricket and look forward to seeing the women’s Thunder Indigenous XI compete,” said Homestar Finance Executive Mandy Sly.

“It’s great to see the new talent coming through each year.”

Squad: Julie Muir (c), Dharmini Chauhan, Dimity Parton, Naomi Woods, Veronica Gordon, Hannah Darlington (subject to WBBL results), Katarina McEwen, Lauren Woods, Amali McNeill.
