Over the last 14 months van Niekerk has been South Africa’s most prolific allround player— scoring 850 runs across both formats, while also taking 12 wickets. During this period, she also scored her maiden ODI century against Sri Lanka earlier this year.
The remaining women’s awards were swept away by a trio of fast bowlers. Marizanne Kapp was named ODI Player of the Year, Shabnim Ismail was T20I Player of the Year and Tumi Sekhukhune grabbed the Newcomer of the Year award. The three joined a host of fast bowling winners through the night— Kagiso Rabada, Vernon Philander and Dale Steyn among them.
