Sri Lanka Women won the toss and elected to field first. Skipper
Stafanie Taylor and
Hayley Matthews opened the batting for the
West Indies with the mission to build a handsome total and both were playing a very sensitive inning after the dominant performance in ODI’s.
Hayley Matthews scored 37 runs from 37 balls. Now, one of the most dangerous batswomen of T20
Deandra Dottin joined Taylor and scored 15 from just11 balls.
Kycia Knight’s tried to move the score on and quickly, when she was bowled by Chamari Atapattu, West Indies total was 106 and they were four wickets down.
West Indies didn’t lose any other wicket from the remaining 19 balls and
Merissa Aguilleira 22(19) and
Britney Cooper 20(11) returned unbeaten. these two put on a partnership that collected
34 runs from the remaining
19 balls and West Indies reached the total of
140 for 4.
Sri Lanka used seven bowlers in their 20 overs, but none was effective.
Having been set a
target of 141 Sri Lanka had to play accordingly and needed to score at over
7 runs per over. But they couldn’t match the performance of their opponents and lost their first wicket in the very first over as Yashoda Mendis was lbw to
Shakera Selman. Only
Ama Kanchana 17(21) made double figures and she too got out far too soon.
Sri Lanka women were
28/3 after 8.3 overs. Then after not any Sri Lankan batter was able to stamp any authority on the bowling, and West Indies won the match by
71 runs. Selman was outstanding with the ball and produced figures of
3-1- 6-2. Anisa Mohammed proved effective as usual and again took wickets and finished with
4-0- 14-2.
