Chaya Mughal to lead UAE in T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers

Asia Qualifier ahead of the tournament that's scheduled to start from November 22. They will take on Malaysia in the opening fixture of the six-team event. Chaya Mughal will be leading the side  as UAE will make a comeback to international cricket for the first time since the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier in 2019.

Tayeb Kamali, chairman of the selection committee applauded the team for their commitment despite the challenges. “We applaud every member of the Women’s Cricket team as they continue to demonstrate their passion despite the challenges of the past couple of years," he said.

“This is a very committed team and we are extremely pleased that they will now have the opportunity to compete on the international stage. We look forward to an impressive campaign and for them to reach their goal of proceeding to the 2022 Qualifiers.”

The squad has experienced players like right-hander batter Chamani Seneviratne, who has also represented Sri Lanka in international cricket. Young players like Esha Oza, who plays domestic cricket for Mumbai in India, and Kavisha  Egodage will get the opportunity to shine for the Emirates in the qualifiers. The 14-year-old all-rounder Samaira Dharnidharka has also been included in the squad.

UAE will be competing with Bhutan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Nepal, and Kuwait in the Asia Qualifiers in Dubai. The competition will be played in round robin league format and the team that tops the points table will qualify for the global qualifiers.
